Baby Turtles Have New Home

Remember the turtle who laid her eggs in the Conservatory at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher in April? The eggs were dug up and incubated. Seven baby yellow belly sliders hatched in late July. Aquarists Ginger Black and Keith Farmer released five of the baby turtles back into Carolina Bay in the Conservatory. They took off for the water immediately and one got spooked by a fish and dove into the mud to hide.

Mother Nature at Work

Yesterday at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, a turtle laid seven eggs. She's been wandering the Conservatory for two weeks, looking for the perfect spot. She had a big audience of staff, visitors and even a couple of quails, but wasn't shy at all. The eggs will be put in the incubator and hopefully they're fertile.
