Recycling Electronics

As many New Hanover County residents know - we will soon be switching to digital television on September 8th. This has the potential of creating trouble for the environment.

If you use an antennae to get your TV signal, you can buy a converter box or you can buy a new TV. All of them are now digital ready. But what do you do with the old set?

Electronics recycling events offer the best solution. If you just trash that old TV, it has the potential to damage to the environment. About a million tons of old phones, computers and TVs ended up in landfills last year.

Useful materials from those items like glass, plastic, and metals all went to waste. The next electronics recycling event in our area is Saturday, September 6 at Mayfaire Town Center behind Linens 'n Things.

From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM you can drop off your items, but no microwaves, smoke alarms or large appliances, such as refrigerators, are accepted. There's no charge and you're helping the environment while reducing the clutter in your house.
